Saipan and Japan have close ties–with the Japanese market being an integral part of Saipan tourism and economy for years. So when news of the earthquake and tsunami reached Saipan, Shirley’s is one with the rest of the world in praying for their safety, rescue and rebuilding.

Last April 10, Shirley’s Football Club took a solid step in helping Japan as they joined the other football teams in a fundraising event at the Ada Gymnasium. In this fundraiser, players of Keio University women’s soccer club had a friendly match against Northern Mariana Islands (NMI) Women’s national team. Before the match, players of the different football clubs in Saipan joined in the dribbling relay competition, penalty kick challenge while in the men’s and women’s division, the players played the 4 x 4 small side game challenge.

Sure they are football players and can give a good kick but their hands are talented as well. These hands were put to good use last March 26, 2011 as the Shirley’s FC joined the beautification project of Olei Elementary School.

Parents, players and coaches joined the clean up and helped in the painting of the ten drums which is to be donated by the team to the school as trash cans.

Dickerson and Quinn donated several boxes of Kellogg’s Cereals to the different football clubs on Saipan. This donation is for the benefit of the Spring Youth Football League players.

Last March 23, Shirley’s Football Club distributed its second box of Kellogg’s Cereals to its U6 and U8 players during the practice games at Oleai Elementary School.

Clad in their bright blue uniforms, Shirley’s Foootball Club came in full force for the 2011 Kick Butts Day Parade held yesterday, March 24, 2011.

The event was organized by the Department of Public Health’s Community Guidance Center. This parade aims to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle among the youth of the CNMI. Shirley’s FC strong showing is in support of this advocacy.

Shirley’s FC joined more than 700 youngsters from schools and organizations that started at Mt. Carmel and ended at Hopwood Junior campus where a program and a dance competition were staged.

A staunch supporter of the sport and the benefits and values it bring to the younger set, the Shirley’s Football Club made the donation of ten soccer balls to the Oleai Elementary School last February 5, 2011.

It was the football club’s first get together party at the grounds of Oleai Elementary School where more than 50 youth players showed up together with their parents for the Youth Football Spring League registration..

The soccer ball donation made the get together more meaningful and was an apt welcome to the league which will open on February 26.

A grateful Mr. James Sablan, Oleai’s Vice Principal, accepted the donation from Shirley’s Football Club president, Susan Macario. With Macario is NMIFA President Jerry Tan and Shirley’s Football Club General Secretary Puy Macario.

In a brief speech, Mr. Sablan mentioned that he is happy to receive the soccer ball donation and that the school will continue with their partnership with Shirley’s Football Club who had been instrumental in increasing the awareness of the students in the said sport.

Susan Macario, the Club’s president, relayed that they are very grateful to Oleai Elementary School for providing the club its home, where children do their practice games twice a week.

Their donation of the ten pieces soccer balls to Oleai Elementary school is just a small token of appreciation to the officers of the school as by providing the home pitch, the club knows they will be able to reach more students and children of CNMI and create a bigger impact through the sport of football.
